How to Create a Nurturing Love Relationship
In a love relationship there are three entities to nurture: You, Your partner, Your couple.
"The perfect relationship, like the perfect partner, does not exist: it is created."
Here are six key recommendations for creating and maintaining a nurturing love relationship.
1. Schedule couple time every week
Once a week, block off time in your calendar for the couple — to enjoy quality time together, without interruptions from children, family or friends.
2. Establish shared projects
Develop common goals for your relationship, your family, humanity, or your impact in the world.
3. Communicate openly
Speak openly about all aspects of your life — without blame, accusation or guilt. Transparency is essential for nurturing the relationship.
4. Prioritize physical intimacy
Address sexual health, particularly for women raised with repressive attitudes toward sexuality.
"Sexual energy has, among other things, a self-healing power."
5. Commit fully
"Being in a relationship means making a conscious choice" and accepting the consequences. As Collette Portelance puts it:
"It is not commitment that imprisons you in a couple, it is doubt and indecision."
6. Seek professional help
Ask for help during difficult periods, when love is still present, setting the ego aside.
A nurturing relationship does not fall from the sky. It is built, week after week, with intention, courage and love.
